{"id":39533,"date":"2021-02-08T07:00:59","date_gmt":"2021-02-08T06:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/strtgy.design\/articles\/t-e-m-p-o\/"},"modified":"2021-02-08T07:00:59","modified_gmt":"2021-02-08T06:00:59","slug":"t-e-m-p-o","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/strtgy.design\/en\/strtgy-notes-en\/t-e-m-p-o\/","title":{"rendered":"T.E.M.P.O."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hey, happy Monday!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today we try to fix this with time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;The new economy runs so fast that it is impossible to keep up with innovation.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was 2001 and this answer was in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/271812955_Management_Tools_and_Techniques_A_Survey\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">survey by Bain&amp;Co.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It seems that the situation has not changed at all.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Therefore, I decided to make public a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/strtgy.design\/?post_type=evento&#038;p=4932\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">workshop<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, one of the most effective, conducted to date only with STRTGY Alumni. Those who have done it have told me that: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He has clearer ideas about what the mechanics of his own growth are<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He finally eliminated the noise and was able to focus on the things that really move the bar<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Team members have the feeling that they are all rowing in the same direction, while maintaining autonomy<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/strtgy.design\/?post_type=evento&#038;p=4932\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I recommend that you participate<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, either alone or with your team, before spots run out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is really powerful.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>We don&#8217;t have time to devote to it.<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #999999;\">&#8211; Eug\u00e8ne Ionesco<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Saturday I sent an email to all newsletter subscribers, you should have received it too, in which I asked what was the most important thing that if solved would enable you to work 10 times better.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you haven&#8217;t had a chance to respond yet, you can do so <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/us20.list-manage.com\/survey?u=780259c43d56d598850c0b71e&amp;id=c26867dc11&amp;e=*%7CUNIQID%7C*\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by visiting at this link<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it will literally take 3 minutes on the clock. I&#8217;m really interested in that! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I carefully read all the responses and could collect them into three categories:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I don&#8217;t have time.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;My team is not clear on what to do.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Processes are not properly structured.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As I followed the flow of responses, I also realized that these three things are connected in a dangerous vortex: I don&#8217;t have time to do my own thing, as a result I struggle to communicate with my team who are unclear about the direction and therefore cannot structure processes to make work more efficient (and fun)&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where to start to get out of this fog?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Untitled.ppt<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Which document clearly explains what the strategy is that you as a company, or as a team, are implementing right now. Could you find it? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mmhmm&#8230; Maybe you have a business plan&#8230;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It&#8217;s not your fault, how can you know what to do if no one has told you which direction to go?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is a beautiful passage in a book I recommend, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3aCT5ao\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Good Strategy\/Bad Strategy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Richard Rumelt that goes something like this:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;A good strategy always seems simple and obvious and does not need slides to explain it. It does not magically appear while filling in a strategy tool, matrix, chart, triangle, or while completing white spaces. Instead, a good strategy manifests itself when a talented leader identifies one or two key problems and decides to focus all his or her resources on them.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do you agree?<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Seeing the gears in X-rays<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let&#8217;s talk about your car. Actually about any car. Most of the interesting stuff happens in the engine. You don&#8217;t know how it works, all you need to know is that when you press on the accelerator you will go forward to the destination you need to reach.   <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That&#8217;s it, in your business it&#8217;s not enough to press on the accelerator without knowing how the engine works, because your job is not just to reach the destination whatever the cost&#8230; <\/span><b>Your job is to make the car better<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by making it so that it can go farther, using less gasoline, with less smoke and less noise&#8230;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To do this you need to know what the gears are and how they are arranged to understand how energy is transferred from one to another.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you first see the gears lined up on the sheet, it will be like looking at the engine in an X-ray. You will understand how it works, and more importantly, you will discover that it is simpler than you thought.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This propulsion scheme is your Strategy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And it should be on your desk and that of your entire team. Only by knowing it will they be able to ask themselves: but the activity I am doing what gear will improve? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Time we cannot create but we can make the most of the one at our disposal by focusing only on the things that matter.
