Hey happy Tuesday!

Yes I know, it seems strange to get my email today….

One of the rules I gave myself when I started writing this newsletter was that I would not send emails on holidays.

I thought this might be a way to provide an incentive to separate the time we devote to work from the time we devote to family or ourselves.

After all, a good strategy is such when it works even without us.

We all find time to work on the most urgent “things.” Few find the time to work on strategy.

But when “there is no time to work on strategy,” the nonsense is that he will take twice as much away from life because of the lack of it.

The strategy is not the what you do.

The strategy is WHY you do it.

When you replace the what with the because The task list is halved and the time doubled. Always. Try it!

But it is not the strategy per se that frees up time.

Rather, it is the systems that the strategy aims to create.

The system represents the shortest path between effort and result.

I devote an incredible amount of energy to developing pragmatic tools to achieve maximum progress with minimum energy: you will find them in newsletters, content on social media, and especially at MAKE PROGRESS with OKRs-I am happy to share them with you.

Mid 2023, what will happen in STRTGY

So I welcome you to the second segment of the year, the one from May to September inclusive. On the benefits of dividing the year into strategic quarters rather than fiscal quarters, I have discussed this in the past here.

In this note, I have compiled the next scheduled initiatives in order of relevance.

I hope this break has regenerated you,
it is time to go to the heart of 2023!

I look forward to creating something great together!

ALWAYS MAKE PROGRESS⤴

JTBD Progress Revealed

Deadline extended for May Cohort

The quality of the teams that have registered leave no doubt to the fact that it will be a beautiful edition. It would be great if you also decided to participate!

JTBD is a phenomenal framework for reverse engineering people’s behaviors and bringing to market products that beat the competition with precision laser.

In order to give a chance to those who were not able to organize due to this very long bridge, I have decided to extend the deadline until next Friday, May 5, and to schedule as of now the second edition, which, however, will have a slightly higher price. This increase will allow more resources to support the development of the tools that I will distribute as interview templates and spreadsheets to analyze the results. Those who sign up for any cohort will have lifetime access to all future updates.

See the program and join us.

Make Progress with OKRs May Cohort

Adopt OKRs along with other ambitious entrepreneurs

If you attended the April live cohorts, you will know that we are testing a new way of implementing OKRs. The newly started cohort is already bringing excellent results!

Each month a group of entrepreneurs, executives and professionals, join together for 16 weeks (12+4) to run, under the guidance of a certified coach, the entire implementation program MAKE PROGRESS. In this cohort I will personally lead the work.

If you want to bring OKRs to your team, effectively, quickly and with fewer mistakes, consider joining the working group starting in late May and have your OKRs ready by September.

It is the only working model in Italy with this approach. Running the program with your peers from other companies will allow you to think outside the box and more quickly discover strategies that work.

Participation in this cohort provides automatic access to the certification pathway, which is useful for managers and consultants who wish to help other companies implement the program or join the team at STRTGY.

Your next CEO will be an AI

Turin Digital Days, May 9, 2023 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

I have been invited to contribute to the Torino Digital Days. We could meet live at the Talent Garden Fondazione Agnelli to talk about a topic I’ve been studying closely lately, especially now that they’ve reopened ChatGPT in Italy and every product seems to offer its own AI functionality.

The AI narrative has brought strong concerns about the future of work and professions that could be completely replaced.

What if instead it is not the employees but the CEO who is replaced?

It may sound like science fiction, but it is already happening. AI is increasingly able to make complex decisions and communicate effectively. In this talk we will explore the potential benefits and challenges of leadership augmented or fully automated by artificial intelligence, consider what it takes to build a successful partnership between humans and machines, and how to integrate AI into the development of business strategies.

OKR for CTO

All you need to know

If there are any teams that should adopt OKRs first, it is those led by CTOs.

They are, of course, advantaged by the fact that they have a great deal of numbers at their disposal and possess the skills to bring them out of the systems, except that … they are often far removed from the strategy and treated as hourly consultants if even inside the company!

In this live session with Alex Pagnoni we covered topics specific to CTOs such as:

Set OKRs with company goals: the metrics you choose must be aligned with the goals, and it is important to make IT from ondemand to proactive;

Implement the OKRs in the CTO team: the OKRs must become a guide for experimentation and innovation in the team, and they must then interface on the other departments as well;

Overcoming the common challenges of OKRs for CTOs: managing the budget and following a roadmap is not always easy; OKRs can also serve to overcome conflicts within an organization.

Checklist to validate the Growth Machine

Hi Juan!!! Thank you for the question!

The Growth Machine represents the minimum set of results that you need to generate in the business to grow. Each result has a positive effect on the next, and this creates a self-reinforcing mechanism. It means that you will make less and less effort if you focus on optimizing each and every gear.

The examples I presented in the book have been shown to have worked for those companies. But they are not templates to which you can substitute gear names. However, you can use them as inspiration to build your own or the companies you work with.

The Growth Machine is closely related to the business model. It captures the aspects on which the company bases its value creation methods and investigates their correlations.

If in the past you have found a direct relationship between increasing your skills and your growth then that is a good gear.

Here is a checklist for whether your Growth Machine is a good representation of your growth mechanics:

☑ Do all gears support the growth of North Star Metric?

☑ Are there at least 3 business cases that allow you to go over each step?

☑ Is it independent of the technologies you use today?

If you get 3 checks…congratulations on finding your GM!
